Microchipping is a safe, simple procedure that’s effective and tamperproof. If your pet gets lost or stolen, you’re most likely to be reunited with them if they are microchipped.
While most pets can be microchipped, it’s a legal requirement, in Ireland, for dogs and horses and for pets travelling outside of Ireland.
A microchip is a tiny electronic device, as small as a grain of rice, coded with a unique number that can be read by a scanner, all vets and animal shelters have these. The number also gets added to national and European central databases, ensuring further security for your pets.
It's a relatively painless procedure, similar to getting a vaccine injection, although the needle is slightly bigger.
The chip is injected under the skin, surrounding tissues become attached to it, preventing it from moving throughout the lifetime of your pet.
Pets are usually unaware of the microchip after it’s been injected, adverse reactions are very rare.
